NextGen students at ASU NGSC Leadership Conference

Students from across the Next Generation Service Corps visited Arizona State University, home to the first NextGen Service program, for a day of leadership development, public service career exploration, and networking with peers and alumni. Held on February 3, the annual ASU NGSC Leadership Conference featured over 50 speakers whose careers span all levels of government and non-profit organizations, exclusively for NextGen Service students.

The visiting students from Montclair State University, the University of Nebraska-Omaha, the University of New Mexico, the University of Washington-Bothell, and the University of Washington-Tacoma arrived at the Tempe campus the day before the conference for a campus tour led by one of their peers and a dinner. The conference itself opened with a message from keynote speaker, Evan Moss, an anti-racism advocate whose monologue in the wake of George Floyd’s murder “Let’s Talk About Race” has blossomed into presentations for employees of organizations around the country, a passion he followed outside of his day job as an engineering project manager at Apple.

NextGen Service students engaged in breakout sessions tailored to their public service interests, participated in mock interviews, and heard from panels sharing insights on military service, national service opportunities, civic engagement, and more.
