CCNY joins national network preparing rising leaders for public service

New York, NY – Today, the Volcker Alliance announced the City College of New York (CCNY) is joining the Next Generation Service Corps. A network of programs at colleges and universities across the country, the Next Generation Service Corps is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at inspiring and preparing students to serve their communities and nation.

Supported by the Volcker Alliance, Next Generation Service Corps programs (NextGen Service) introduce undergraduates from all majors to public service values. NextGen Service students build practical, collaborative leadership skills, enjoy access to exclusive events and activities, and join an expansive national movement dedicated to public service and community engagement.

“Helping rising leaders connect to public service careers is one of our central goals,” said Michael Miller, managing director of the Moynihan Center at City College. “We are excited to expand our students’ knowledge of public service opportunities and strengthen their professional networks beyond the City College campus through our participation in NextGen Service.”

CCNY has a long history of cultivating leaders in public service and citizenship. The Next Generation Service Corps will give CCNY students another rich opportunity to challenge their thinking while exploring meaningful ways to further serve their communities and country through service.

“The addition of CCNY to the NextGen Service network is especially meaningful given the recent passing of Richard Ravitch, a champion of public service whose legacy connected the Volcker Alliance and the Moynihan Center,” said Sara Mogulescu, president of the Volcker Alliance. Mr. Ravitch helped establish the Moynihan Center in its early days, a tribute to his late friend Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

“CCNY is proud to be the newest member of the Next Generation Service Corps,” said Dr. Vincent Boudreau, president of the City College of New York. “Our students are diverse, driven, and committed to improving their communities. Connecting them to like-minded peers across the country will broaden their impact as future leaders and enrich their learning.”

Currently, twenty schools are part of the continuously growing network. Along with the most recent members including Syracuse University, the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania State University, the University of New Mexico, and the University of Washington (Bothell and Tacoma), the Next Generation Service Corps was co-founded by the Volcker Alliance and Arizona State University, whose Public Service Academy served as the inspiration and model for the NextGen Service program.
