On June 10, our partner We the Veterans and Military Families hosted veterans, military families, civic leaders, and community partners at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library for the third annual Flag Day Convening, marking both Flag Day and the United States’ 250th birthday. Service to Service fellows, enrolled in schools of public service across the country, joined the celebration and heard from military-connected panelists who have continued their service in government.

"I often tell people that I have been in public service since I was 17 years old. And over my decades of service, this position as county supervisor is the best job that I have ever had. You wake up every day with an impossible task to solve," said Mike Turner, Ashburn District Supervisor, Loudoun County, Virginia, and a former command pilot in the U.S. Air Force.

The evening’s award reception included the inaugural Service to Service Fellow Award, honoring a fellow who exemplifies the highest ideals of continued service and inspires fellow veterans, military family members, and students alike to pursue lives of purpose, impact, and service. Congratulations to this year’s honoree, Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth Pospisil, a U.S. Army Military Police Officer currently completing his Master of Public Affairs at the Truman School of Government and Public Affairs!
