Pahlka, former US Deputy Chief Technology Officer and Pioneering Advocate for Government Modernization in the Digital Age, joins the Alliance’s Board

New York, NY – The Volcker Alliance is thrilled to announce that Jennifer Pahlka, founder and former CEO of Code for America, has joined our Board of Directors. Pahlka is the author of Recoding America: Why Government is Failing in the Digital Age and How We Can Do Better and a senior fellow at the Niskanen Center and the Federation of American Scientists.

While serving as US Deputy Chief Technology Officer under President Obama, Pahlka helped found the United States Digital Service, which brings world-class technologists and designers to government to improve the digital service delivery. She also served on the Defense Innovation Board under both President Obama and Trump.

“I am honored to join the Volcker Alliance, an organization that is empowering public servants and building strategies for effective government reform,” said Jennifer Pahlka. “Crucial to the effectiveness of government are processes that embolden rather than stymie policy implementation. I look forward to working with the talented, committed Volcker Alliance team to seek those out and improve government service delivery.”

Pahlka is the winner of multiple awards and accolades, including the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, the David Packard Award, the Oxford Internet Institute’s Technology and Society Award, and the National Democratic Institute’s Democracy Award. She was also selected by Wired magazine as one of the people who have most shaped technology and society in the past 25 years.

“We are honored to have such an innovative and pioneering leader join our Board,” said Sara Mogulescu, president of the Volcker Alliance. “Paul Volcker was a commanding voice for government reform both in policy and implementation to better serve the American public, and Jen has reinvigorated his call for reform in the digital age.”
