Neilia Stephens joined the Volcker Alliance in July 2018 as the director of communications. For more than twenty years, Ms. Stephens has designed and implemented global strategic communications, marketing, branding, stakeholder engagement, crisis management, and digital marketing programs for forty cities, states, and countries. Many of these campaigns engaged public officials including members of the UK Parliament, US governors, and mayors, as well as educational institutions and the private sector.
Prior to the Volcker Alliance, Ms. Stephens held a position as principal on the public relations and marketing team at Conway, Inc. While there, she managed some of the firm’s key domestic and international clients. She was charged with leading strategic communications initiatives across a wide range of focus areas including economic development, foreign direct investment, investment attraction/retention, job creation, talent recruitment/retention and diverse industry sectors. Ms. Stephens also worked at Development Counsellors International and held numerous roles such as account director, director of media training and internship director.
Ms. Stephens’ passion for storytelling and journalistic mindset has led to established relationships with the media. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and serves as the volunteer committee chair for the New York Chapter. Additionally, Ms. Stephens was a guest speaker at a National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Global Diversity Summit and taught the International Economic Development Council’s marketing course as part of the organization’s CEDC certification program. Ms. Stephens is a graduate of Baruch College and resides on Long Island.
